International delete your MySpace day
Happy International delete your MySpace day everyone … Unlike my friend JM, I will not be deleting my profile today. Here’s why:
1. The Hanks
The Hanks are my favorite band and their MySpace profile is their main form of communication with their fans. If I didn’t have an account, I wouldn’t have known about their new cd, Distance, which comes out 3.8.08. Nor would I know that pre-ordering is the only way to get a bonus acoustic track.
2. Umm … I don’t know why else
I was going to make a list of reasons why I would keep my profile, but I can’t. If The Hanks were on the much more tasteful VIRB or had a Facebook profile, I would delete my MySpace account with no qualms.
MySpace is rife with spam, crappy bands, cliché mirror shirtless profile pictures, crappy profile songs, horrid horrid horrid design … it almost pains me to go on. Basically, MySpace’s day has come and gone. It is still far more popular than Facebook, despite the hype given to Facebook. But those of the Web 2.0/blogging/tasteful/non-teeny-bopper avant-garde have already moved on either in spirit (like me) or in action like JM.
3. Thought of one more …
I just remembered that I’m one of only 4 friends my Mom has on MySpace (5 if you count Tom) …
Anybody else deleting/keeping their MySpace account?
