2.1.3 … My First Wordpress Upgrade

Ok, I just updated to Wordpress 2.1.3 in my first foray into Wordpress upgrading. I can assure you all it was great fun … kind of. You see, I hadn’t been to my phpMyAdmin in a while and I couldn’t remember my password. And then i remembered to check my config.php file. Ha! It was there! Score! So I got in and managed to back up my database without too much trouble.

So while I’m on phpMyAdmin, I decide to change my password. I’ve been updating all my passwords, which I try to do periodically, in case anyone should guess them. Ok, so great, now with all of my passwords updated, I’m all kinds of safer on the intrawebs … one little problem: I forgot to update my config.php file! And stupid me didn’t think of that until about 30 minutes later, when I was pulling my hair out trying to figure out why I couldn’t get to my dashboard to disable my plugins.

Long story short, I finally got everything working. I’m sure that Samantha and Stephen are laughing at my noob Wordpress skills right about now if they’re reading, though. 2.1.3 fixed a few bugs for me, namely, my options page had some serious issues. Despite my best efforts I couldn’t get rid of “Just another Wordpress Weblog.” As you can see, I’ve fixed that. I also rather like the new “write post” page, especially the tab for code instead of a pop out.

Well, that’s all I really care to say about Wordpress for tonight. I’ve got class in the morning and all …

As my name changed, so did my URL. That one probably won’t work after December.

Not laughing at n00bness. This stuff takes time.

My WP 2.1.3 upgrade was waaay stressful. Let’s just say I temporarily lost everything, but thanks to a great phpMyAdmin backup, I was back in business and just retrieved all the old data through my host’s backup script.

So remember kids, always back that s— up.
